About the Organization (Banasthali Vidyapith)

Banasthali Vidyapith aims at the synthesis of spiritual values and scientific achievements of both the East and the West. Its educational programme is based on the concept of "Panchmukhi Shiksha" and aims at all round harmonious development of personality.

Emphasis on Indian culture and thought characterized by simple living and khadi wearing are hallmarks of life at Banasthali.

Krishi Vigyan Kendra

The KVK is a grass root level institute under the auspices of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi and Banasthali University. It was established in the year 1995 and receives 100% grant from ICAR for infrastructural developments and execution of programmes. The beneficiaries are practicing farmers, farm women, rural youths and extension functionaries of development departments and voluntary organizations. Empowerment of rural women receives priority in its programmes.

It is presently manned by an Programme Coordinator, Six Subject Matter Specialists, three Programme Assistants and Six ministerial staff. The KVK has distinct mandates comprising

  • Conducting on-farm testing to identify the location specificity of agricultural technologies under various farming systems.
  • Organizing frontline demonstrations to establish production potential of various crops and enterprises on the farmers’ fields.
  • Organizing need based training of farmers to update their knowledge and skills in modern agricultural technologies related to technology assessment, refinement and demonstration, and training of extension personnel to orient them in the frontier areas of technology development.
  • Creating awareness about improved technologies to larger masses through appropriate extension programmes.
  • Production and supply of good quality seeds and planting materials, livestock, poultry and fisheries breeds and products and various bio-products to the farming community.
  • Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for supporting initiatives of public, private and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.

    District Profile

    Agro Ecological Situation

    Agro ecological situation of the district which is situated in mid eastern part of Rajasthan falling in semi arid eastern plain zone III A. Tonk, an erstwhile princely state of Rajasthan is located in the north-eastern part between longitudes 75007’ and 760 19’ and latitude 250 41’ and 260 34’. This is bounded by the capital district of Rajasthan namely Jaipur, in the southeast by Bhilwara district, in the west by Ajmer district and in the east by Sawai Madhopur district. The district is flat and has a kite shape; the district has elevation of about 264.32 meters above the sea level. The river Banas is the lifeline of the district, which divides the district into two halves. The climate of the district is moderate, dry and healthy without significant variations. The mean temperature of the district is 34 degree Celsius.

    The Krishi Vigyan Kendra celebrate and conduct awareness programme on International Yoga day (21st June), World food day (16th October), World soil day celebration (5th December) during each year. Also conduct two preseasonal training programme, SAC meeting and other awareness programme for farmers, Farm women and Rural youth during every year.
